News Release Date: 13th April 2006 Blagg and Johnson invests £500,000 in Newark/Notts Blagg and Johnson has revealed a £500,000 investment in state-of-the-art laser cutting equipment and computer technology. The Newark company, based in the town since being founded in 1921, employs around 60 people and supplies components to a number of industries, including construction, commercial vehicles, Rail, waste handling, materials handling and general engineering. It has just become one of the first Nottinghamshire companies to install a Trumpf 4kw laser cutting centre, with a 6000mm x 2000mm bed size as well as pipe cutting facilities, which will enable it to complement its pressing and fabricating operations. Managing Director Conrad Gray said: "This substantial investment will help the company to become a one-stop-shop for its clients and shows a real commitment to industry in Nottinghamshire." "Our investment will mean that components can be made even more accurately and efficiently than before, whether that’s in mild steel, stainless steel or aluminium." "It will help us to become more competitive and means that we will not have to outsource work that can now be done on the new piece of machinery." The new laser-cutting plant can accommodate pieces up to six metres by two metres and can cut up to 20mm mild steel (all grades), 15mm stainless steel (all grades) and 10mm aluminium quickly and efficiently. The new computer suite has been developed to provide a complete solution to improve the efficiency of the company. It will be used for accounting, estimating, tracking remnants, will be linked with production and includes an electronic data interchange, allowing customers to send schedules directly to the system. Mr Gray said: "What we have tried to do is implement an integrated programme of investment that will help to ensure the company remains at the forefront in years to come." Blagg and Johnson is a privately owned company that has BS EN ISO 9001:2000 accreditation and offers services such as laser cutting, plasma cutting, turret punching, pressed steel sections, fabricated assemblies and cold rolled sections Gordon Wright |
